5 things you can make with your Thermomix and freeze for later
When cooking with your Thermomix you can double the recipe, eat one portion now and freeze the other meal to eat later. It saves time and money in the long run. If you choose to double it, you will need to make sure you increase any cooking time in the Thermomix by 20%, other than that, it’s simple.
So what meals can you prepare in the Thermomix and freeze?
Beef pie, mince pie, stroganoff pie, chicken and leek pie, basically any pie you make you can cook and freeze to eat later. One of the great things about this is you can actually use leftovers from many meals to make pies such as leftover curry or bolognese. Simply make the pastry, fill it with whatever you choose, bake then freeze. Don’t limit yourself to savoury options either, apply pies, berry, rhubarb and all sorts of fruits make wonderful pies.
Butter chicken and other curries
A super popular Thermomix recipe and one that freezes beautifully. It also makes loads of extra sauce, which you can freeze and use as a home made ‘chicken tonight’ – simply add the chicken and you have a ready to go meal for a crazy night instead of buying takeaway. Most curries freeze well and if you want to take it a step further, you can cook rice to freeze with the curries in single serve portions.
Lasagne, meatballs or burgers
Basically, any mince dish will freeze well. Cook up lasagne or cook batches of bolognese to use in spaghetti, pies and future lasagnas. Meatballs, meatloaf, burgers, rissoles and sausage rolls all freeze well after being cooked and can be served with vegetables, salads, rolls or on their own.
Pumpkin soup, tomato soup, leek and cauliflower soup and other soups that are creamy freeze really well. Soups with pasta in them don’t go quite as well, nor do soups with chunks of carrot, the flavour changes slightly. If you don’t mind the change in flavour, there are many more soups you can freeze.
Ham and cheese scrolls, Vegemite scrolls, cakes without icing, muffins such as ham and cheese, blueberry, carrot, zucchini or any other flavour, cupcakes, biscuits, slices and a variety of school lunchbox snacks or after school snacks freeze really well. You can freeze in individual portions to defrost the night before or that day in their lunch. Make a big batch of a selection of snacks, freeze then use as needed.
