What’s In Season In July

The cheapest and most flavoursome fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices are likely to be what’s in season in July! Cooking seasonally will not only save you money but also ensure that your food has the most flavour. A complete list of what’s in season in July can be found below, along with some extra info on a couple of our seasonal favourites.

Spotlight on Strawberries

Strawberries are as good for you as they look and taste! With just 49 calories per cup, a good source of dietary fibre and numerous health benefits, strawberries are one of the most nutrient dense fruits available.

These potent little packages protect your heart, increase HDL (good) cholesterol, lower blood pressure and guard against cancer. Packed with vitamins, fiber, and particularly high levels of antioxidants, strawberries are a sodium-free, fat-free, cholesterol-free, low-calorie food. They are among the top 20 fruits in antioxidant capacity and are a good source of manganese and potassium. Just one serving — about eight strawberries — provides more vitamin C than an orange.

Strawberries are low in calories, and are both delicious and healthy. Strawberries are extremely versatile and can be used in breakfast smoothies, on salads, in desserts, eaten alone as a snack and are great as lunch box treats.

They can be consumed in a variety of ways, but are most commonly boiled, baked, steamed or fried. Sweet potatoes are nutritious, cheap, taste great and are very easy to incorporate into your diet.
