Spotlight on Strawberries
Strawberries are as good for you as they look and taste! With just 49 calories per cup, a good source of dietary fibre and numerous health benefits, strawberries are one of the most nutrient dense fruits available.
These potent little packages protect your heart, increase HDL (good) cholesterol, lower blood pressure and guard against cancer. Packed with vitamins, fiber, and particularly high levels of antioxidants, strawberries are a sodium-free, fat-free, cholesterol-free, low-calorie food. They are among the top 20 fruits in antioxidant capacity and are a good source of manganese and potassium. Just one serving — about eight strawberries — provides more vitamin C than an orange.
Strawberries are low in calories, and are both delicious and healthy. Strawberries are extremely versatile and can be used in breakfast smoothies, on salads, in desserts, eaten alone as a snack and are great as lunch box treats.
